As a business owner, I sometimes grimace at the cost of our many commercial forensic tools and the payroll for talented, experienced examiners. The past couple weeks have involved multiple reminders of the value in these expenditures. In some cases, one tool would not accomplish the mission, while another did. Having multiple tools, along with persistence, allowed us to deliver the end product to our clients. One forensic tool will sometimes be quicker to adapt to changes in cell phones or social media platforms, while the next month another tool will be more capable. In a couple of instances, our talented examiners/developers programmed our own customized solution to forensically preserve social media content. All of this happens behind the curtain, with attorney clients only knowing we deliver the required product. I grimace no more (for now).
